I didn’t manage to get up the mountains today, but I did yesterday – I just didn’t get any time to write a post.

Yesterday was pretty windy, with 7th Heaven and the T-Bars on Blackcomb failing to open. Peak and Symphony on Whistler also failed to open, but apparently Harmony did (only for a little while though). Luckily I was on Blackcomb, with Spanky Ladder open, and we did a few laps through it. Plenty of fresh snow – all day long. We were still getting fresh lines in Garnet Bowl (the top) at the end of our day (around 2pm).

Our last lap, with did a line skiers left in Diamond (Calvin) and it appeared only 1 person had beaten us there. I was shown a line called ‘Gummy Bear’ for the first time – another great run, which is easily accessible, and basically gives you the same snow as the high entrance to Ruby Bowl (without actually doing the scary high entrance) , it doesn’t let you get across to Shredder though. I also survived the middle entrance to Sapphire, and had a fun powder line in Zut Zut.

Visibility was not great, and the winds certainly made it tough at times (with the snow blowing into your face) – but overall it was a good powder day. They even shut the Peak to Peak gondola early in the day due to high winds – the first time that has happened that I am aware of.

Today it has continually snowed / rained (mainly rain) in the valley – so I presume it has been snowing all day up top. The winds must’ve been better, as they managed to open all the alpine regions (except Blackcomb glacier by the looks of it). So it would’ve been a nice day on the Peak chair.

The forecast still looks awesome, with more snow tonight / tomorrow followed by a slight sunny break this weekend with more snow next week :)

  1. Tom says:

I’m in the area 4/5/09. Can you say how the snowpack is (upper and lower). Last year I stayed in the upper village along the Wizard Chair but I’m wondering if this year, being that close to the valley, will “ski-in/ski-out” translate to “walk down a muddy slope”? 2. Hey Tom, the snow base is really good right now, even in the valley. It is always hard to tell, but judging by the predicted temperatures / snow, I expect you will still be skiing home :)

Thanks for the donation mention, I actually received quite a few donations early in the season, but nothing for a while now :(
Thanks for yours back in January.
