What a week it was! – Plenty of snowy days, sometimes overcast, sometimes windy, but the visibility was generally pretty good. It finished with brilliant sunshine with fresh powder for the weekend. I had a blast on the Extremely Canadian course Mon/Tues – with some amazing runs (especially Monday) I will not forget for a while. It continued to snow all week, with varying freezing levels, but always snow up top.

Unfortunately I didn’t get to ski as much as I would’ve liked – I didn’t on Saturday (bad news because it was a sunny 25cm+ powder day) and I heard the lift lines were outrageous. What do you expect with a week of powder (close to 150cm) then sunshine for the weekend – regional skiers came out of the woodwork. They may have had a long lift line queue, but I’m sure the snow was magic.

I did manage to get a few runs on Sunday, on Blackcomb, and there was no lift lines at all. Top quality snow, mostly tracked though. The pictures of an avalanche on ‘Ladies First’ were taken Sunday. ‘Ladies First’ is located within the Blackcomb Glacier, and accessed via another hike once inside the Blackcomb Glacier region. It is not a run that many people do.

As you can see it was a decent slide, you wouldn’t want to get hit by that huge snowball !!

Obviously all this new snow has created a avalanche hazard again, and I have heard quite a few bombs this week. So everyone should remember to be careful, especially if traveling out-of-bounds.

Anyway, we have received a lot of snow lately, and the runs have been awesome. I will definitely be able to ski the next few days, and am ‘chomping at the bit’ to get up there :) I know you want to see some of the skiing action, but all I managed was a video showing the size of the slide.

Seriously dude! that’s a huge effing avalanche!

Good video bud! The snow has been pretty incredible lately.

Considering this is my first season and I’ve just recovered from a screwed knee, and I’m from the east, I’ve just recently been exposed to the non-tourist spots of the mountain and I’m totally loving them!

Blackcomb Glacier and all the Jewel Bowls… mmmmmm…… so good!

  2. Glad to hear the stoke :)

hell thats a bit scary… I rode that line about 5 days ago…

  4. Dan – That’s a lot scary, it was a big slide. How was the hike around at the top ?
