I love days like today, a good storm day
Not very good for getting the camera out, but fun to ski.
The alpine lifts didn’t open due to high winds, so we had to settle for just Emerald and Red chair. Basically, it was windy right at the Roundhouse level (on a chairlift) but once I got off the chair, I only noticed the wind a few times (blowing all the snow in my face). At times the visibility was poor, with a flat light – So why was it such a good day?
Overnight we received around 16 – 20cm, and it continued to snow the whole day – a good puking at times. Judging by the recorded numbers, we got around 25cm during the day. The first few runs of the day were as good as skiing blue/easy black terrain can get. Although the snow was a little heavy at the bottom of Garbanzo lift it was velvet for the most part. I loved my fresh line down Upper Dave Murray -> Tokum ….. Magic! Actually, we were skiing close to fresh lines every run, even when you did the same line twice in a row. The heavy snowfall and winds were doing a great job of ‘topping up’ the runs.
The mountain was pretty empty, especially once you realized we were all sharing the same few lifts. The line at Emerald was a <=5 minute wait, while Red chair even quicker. Garbanzo would’ve been even less, but we stuck to Red and Emerald for the higher elevation.
So yeah, I like stormy days. Plus we get to look forward to all that new snow in the alpine when they open it ![]()

Coming up with my wife and 6yr old between xmas and ny… sorely hoping the rain some places are predicting does not come!!! any signs of it?
Lately (and the current forecast predicts) we are getting rain the valley, with snow on the mountain. It is likely to be changing from snow to rain around the middle of the mountain for the next week or so (or lower).
As for Xmas and NYE, that is too far away to even try to guess.
