Today has got to rank in the top 10 days of all time for me. The snow quality was excellent, the snow depth was crazy, and there is no one here – so we got to ski deep pow all day long.

I did a couple of runs around Red chair on Whistler in the morning then headed over to Blackcomb around lunchtime to meet some friends. The fresh snow on Whistler was amazing, I have not skied snow so good for a long time. I manage two laps down Lower Franz’s where it was basically a fresh line the whole way. Perfect ! Nice and light so you hardly feel it, yet a bit of substance to give awesome flotation.

On Blackcomb, we managed to catch 7th Heaven just after it opened (around 12:30 I think) and continued to lap it all day. We didn’t even think about going elsewhere. My best day on 7th Heaven ever ! The everglades were ridiculously deep. Even my last run of the day (7th) was epic. My legs were so done I basically stuck to a ‘groomer’ the whole way, and was still getting endless amounts of faceshots. There was untouched patches of snow, knee to waist deep, big enough to get 2 – 3 turns in before hitting another track. Faceshots during my last run of the day, skiing a groomer !!! :)

I cannot say enough about how good today was…. it also snow most of it.

I had to catch the Peak 2 Peak back to Whistler mountain to get to my car, and during the run down (3:30ish), we were finding heaps of powder, only to discover that it was in fact pre-skied, and we were simply enjoying the snow that had fallen during the day.

Lots of snow !! :)

The only negative was the visibility, mostly it was fine, but at times it was a bit flat light. The sun poked it’s head out once or twice (which was phenomenal !) but mostly it was overcast/snowing. I personally loved the day, the visibility was way good enough to see far enough ahead to ski as aggressively as you could manage (my friends way more than me). I only mention this, because some people (especially those who struggle in powder as it is) would have REALLY struggled during the flat light periods.

If today was a sunny day, it would easily be top 3 for me (even with the overall low snow pack).

Can you say DEEP !

:)

I am looking forward to tomorrow, as the sun should shine a bit more. The Blackcomb glacier was closed all day, so it will provide some excellent skiing tomorrow.

Finally we are getting the snow conditions that makes Whistler so good.

I echo Greg’s comments about today. We were lucky enough to make today our first at WB and stuck to Blackcomb all day. Ran the Jersey Cream Chair for much of the morning traversing right off the first pitch to get to Staircase, Blowdown, etc. Did a little skiing in Crystal and then in Glacier when it opened. Looked to be a decent line developing for Spanky’s but they were still blasting till about 1pm. Seventh Heaven was the sweetspot. Untracked lines all day, waist deep in spots. Got lost in it from time to time. Looking forward to hitting Whistler tomorrow. Visibility/flat light the only lowlight but gladly trade it for today’s conditions.

We left Whistler today after being there for ten days, but we had just enough time to get a couple of deep powder runs down Dave Murray and Crabapple.

The snow was amazing, but our end-of-holiday legs probably couldn’t have coped with much more!

Hope the rest of your season goes well.
