It’s been a while since I have strapped the skis on, around a week I guess. I am actually going to struggle to hit the 100 day mark this season (currently around 85-90). Obviously I could easily do the extra days just for the sake of it, but at the moment my priorities lay elsewhere (biking, climbing, work & more work).

The last week has been mainly overcast with patches of precipitation – rain in the valley with snow on the mountain. Surprisingly, the freezing levels were quite low, and we almost got snow all the way to the valley. Personally, I am glad it didn’t snow, as the rain helped clear the ground and bring on biking season.

I have heard from various people the skiing and boarding is great, (except one snowboarder who never seems happy with the conditions – Hi Steve :) ) The upper mountains are in good shape with plenty of coverage while the lower mountains are starting to show dirt patches. You can still ski out quite easily (on the main ski out paths) – but Lower Cruiser and Lower Peak to Creek have some big patches are probably not worth doing.

Today was mainly sunny, and it appears that it will remain sunny for most of this week. Great news for the Ski and Snowboard Festival currently taking place. I am looking forward to the Film Makers Showdown and Photographer Showdown over the next few nights.

I have also been glued to the TV lately watching the Vancouver Canucks beatdown on the St Louis Blues in the NHL. Tonight hopefully they can win the series 4 – 0 and have earn a good break before the start of the second round.

Lastly, I do intend to do a few more days skiing, probably later this week. I will take a camera up to show what kind of coverage is left. So check back in a few days if you are interested.

Edit: I also saw my first bear of the season (in Whistler) while out walking the dog on the local trail :)

Hiked Picolo today, the old fashioned way. At about 10am there was some of the best South facing corn snow I’ve skied in years.

We skied out to the Dublin Gate at lunchtime, and I was amazed at how firm the snow still was all the way down to the valley floor.

Got a good dose of sunburn on the terrace at the Dublin Gate over a couple of pints of Strongbow, ;-) It was as good days Spring skiing as one can hope for.

Raining outside as I write (20.25) and warm, but don’t write the winter off yet!

    Ya go Canucks! :)

Thats all I’ve got Greg… No input on skiing just hockey.

Thanks for the the fabulous ski reports, Greg. Take care of the sunburn and keep us posted. The season’s far from over…for me anyway. We have stuff to do in town this weekend and hope to ski next one.

What the hey, I’ll throw in a little Cypress ski report… My son and I skied Cypress last Thursday. He’s only skied Whistler all of his life (9 years old) and he was not impressed with the ancient double chairlift (Skye lift) which wacked him with the middle post, knocked off his ski, slowly inched up the mountain, etc. Very kind liftee ran and got his ski and put it back on him while we were sitting on the chair! Poor Whistler boy, eh. (Disclosure: I’ve done lots of “time” at the tiny Quebec Laurentien hills, Eastern Townships and Vt.) The conditions at Cypress were terrific and we loved the views of the ocean and nice gladed pitches. Cypress is now closed for the season.
