Yet another excellent day skiing, with little to no lift lines. The weakening inversion meant the village was still a bit cold but the top was a perfect ~-5C. A new system is coming in, and it was starting to snow pretty heavy just around lift closing time. Pity tomorrow is Saturday, I’m going to have to get to those lifts early instead of my sleeping in the last few days 8)

We had plenty of great lines, with lots of fresh, which is why I wasn’t that keen to do my least favourite hike on Blackcomb (Chimney) – but that’s what we did and the snow was epic.

Once again there is some decent snowfall in the forecast, and this time I think it is actually going to come true! The rising freezing level gives it away….. The truth of the matter: the upper mountain is awesome and the FL isn’t going to rise anywhere near enough to harm it. Snow is falling and it is supposed to continue all night and most of tomorrow.

Edit: 9pm- The upper mountain was getting pretty warm, but the temps seem to be dropping again now. Went for a walk outside, and there is quite a bit of light snow on the ground :)
If you are driving up from Vancouver, there is the possibility of freezing rain for you, and for us – so be careful on the road – all the way

Here is a video of Mike riding some pow in the Crystal trees.

the sea to sky highway was sketchy as hell tonight, freezing rain all the way north to daisy lake…

cars all over the place, in the ditches and stopped in really bad spots.

ITS EASY: SLOW DOWN, LEAVE A BIG GAP, USE WINTER TIRES! if you dont you are an idiot and endangering yourselves and others on the road.. dont bother coming up to our town.

Squamish currently is a skating rink, I has 1cm of ice all over my van by the time I got home :/

Hairy drive up on Friday night. Today’s deep light powder made it worth it. Hairy liftlines made it less good. We skied Whistler. No peak, no harmony, no symphony, no peak 2 peak today. The winds were gusty. The skies cleared and brightened as the day went on but the liftlines did not. One t-bar was running with the liftline going right across the hill to the trees. It gave access to some great skiing. If only the liftlines were shorter. If only.

Well, if more lifts open tomorrow, it should be amazing.

You snooze, you lose. Today we arrived at Creekside base at 10 am and the line-up was well beyond the corrals (20 min.). That sucked. It was well beyond the corrals at the Red Chair too. But things looked promising with all the alpine lifts being open. We took a great run down Chunky’s Choice with some nice powder stashes. The line-up at Harmony was also well past the corrals. We couldn’t figure out why no one was skiing under the chair, one if my favourite lines. The blowing snow and nil visibility was the answer. We “survival skied” down to low roll / Harvey’s area in totally unpleasant biting wind, and then had some great skiing. But no one had the appetite for another run at Harmony. Mid-mountain conditions were really good, but not the deep powder that I’m sure the brave got in the alpine. If the winds die down, this coming week should be amazing.

I know this isn’t a road report blog, but I must add that we’ve never seen winds on the Sea to Sky south of Porteau Cove like we did this afternoon (4 pm). I can see why they cancelled all the ferry sailings!
