Once again Whistler was blessed with clear skies and beautiful sunshine. Most people I know are enjoying the skiing right now, with the majority of the mountains covered in great snow. Pity ‘covered’ is not the best word to use as our base is only 139cm where it should be over 200 or closer to 250cm…. The groomed runs on the Whistler seem to be in good shape, while Blackcomb seems a little more hard packed / icy to me. So if you are a groomer, stick to Whistler (or 7th Heaven on Blackcomb). Crystal zone is also nice along Ridge Runner and its off-shoots.
So, what skiing there is is great, and off-piste is certainly fun and worth exploring. Still, watch out for the rocks, as some areas that are normally ‘go for your life’ and more like ‘pick your way through’. Overall, it is probably the best part of the season so far. Chances are it is going to stay nice for a while, as the temperatures are cold and hopefully some more snow!!
We have had some great powder days recently, which has really improved the mountains. So get out there while its good !! I have heard from various people that 7th is fantastic right now, and was awesome during the powder days. I will probably be back on Blackcomb tomorrow so will check it out for myself.
We are talking about a short trip into the back country tomorrow, although I am not convinced on the stability of the snow. If I go, I will be sure to take the camera and get some pics / video as the snow is sure to be awesome. Some friends skied ‘Bodybag’ today and said it was stable, so that is where we might end up.

Nice cold, chalky moguls on Peak to Creek today, a good leg trembler all the way to a cold beer in Dustys! Even Frontier Pass was good and ‘grippy’ with no rock in the piste.
Taking skins and touring gear out tomorrow, probably out towards Oboe/Singing Pass, last weekend’s snow on the N faces is still fun although facets are appearing fast in this clear cold.
When I woke up today and saw the big fat snowflakes the size of cornflakes falling down I was pretty much giddy. Not only for the skiiers, but just cause it’s sweet to look at.
It must be good up there today. It’d also be nice conditions for the park. Do you ever make it through the park?
Nick, Thursday was a nice little (halfa) powder day. A few cms over the already nice surface from the Sunday snowfall. Great skiing for a resort reporting 0cm of snow overnight….
I rarely go through the park, 1 – I don’t want to hurt myself, and 2 – I don’t like how you have to ‘line up’ to hit a feature when there are plenty of features all over the mountains that you can hit as you go along.
